"How can you tell if your parquet comes from sustainable forests?"
If you are interested in the origins of your wood floor, there are two important labels to look out for. On the whole,PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) certification is given to European wood, while FSC certification is awarded to wood from the rest of the world. It is important to note that these have nothing to do with the quality of the wood - they both merely indicate that it has come from forests managed to the best possible standards, with practices adapted to local conditions. These certification systems bring together the three pillars of sustainable development - the environment, the economy and the society. To be sure of the source of European wood, check it bears the PEFC label. Remember though that if it does not bear this seal, the wood has not necessarily come from a poorly managed source.
"When you say your parquet flooring is 100% French, are you referring to the origin of the wood or to where the strips are manufactured?"
The origin of the wood depends on the species, which defines where the trees are grown. Every single Panaget oak parquet floor, however, is made of french oak. For species that do not grow in France, Panaget insists that its suppliers certify the wood does not come from controversial sources. With regards to the production of our floors, this is undoubtedly 100% French, as all our parquet floors are manufactured at our sites in the Brittany region.
"I've heard something about REACH standards, but I can't see the logo on any of your products. Why?"
Panaget is dedicated to protecting the environment and promoting health and safety, and so we adhere fully to REACH legislation, and ensure all the components of our parquet floors are completely traceable. We don't feel it is necessary to display a logo, since respecting these standards is obligatory, though it is essential to check wether your suppliers follows the regulations - and properly respects your health.
"JI have a house by the sea and my joiner has recommended I fit Panaget paruet with an oiled finish. I'm a little hesitant as I don't live there all year and don't want to spend my holidays oiling it"
Your joiner will have given you this advice because oiled parquet is very long-lasting where there is a risk of scratching - in this case by sand from the beach. As you may have seen already, maintaining this type of parquet is neither complicated nor time-consuming, and so you'll be free to spend your holidays enjoying yourself.
"When fitting parquet, how important is it to leave a gap around the edge of rooms (called an expansion joint)?"
The expansion joint is an empty gap around the edge of the room measuring at least eight millimetres. Wherever the parquet comes into a contact with a wall (e.g at the edge of the room, and at partitions, cupboards, pillars, etc.), you MUST leave a gap to allow the parquet to move without anything blocking it. In rooms where there is a lot of humidity (e.g the kitchen or bathroom) it is recommended that you fill this space with silicone sealant.
"How can I join two floors at slightly different heights?"
To join parquet with a fitted carpet or tiled floor, for example, you must use an adapter doorsill. These are designed specially to compensate the differences in height between floors and come in a range of sizes - make sure you choose the right model.
"Which materials can click parquet be installed on?"
Click parquet can be fitted on top of screed, lightweight concrete, tiling, old parquet flooring, plastic coverings and more, in combination with an insulating underlay. It is essential that the underlay is completely clean, flat and dry.
"Can parquet be installed above underfloor heating/cooling systems?"
It can only be fitted above low-temperature heating systems that have been installed since 1990. We have, however, used our expertise to develop several high-quality products that are suitable for this type of floor. These are highlited throughout the brochure. We have also outlined the relevant technical specifications to ensure fitting the floor os as straightforward as possible. This information can be downloaded from our website www.panaget.com
